Inspiration for The Free Clinic Project
My name is Dominic Rivera. I am President and co-founder of the Free Clinic Corporation. After reading articles about hospitals in Haiti shutting down, as professionals were going on strike due to lack of supplies and working under life-threatening and sub-par conditions, my brothers and I were inspired by Dr. Valerie Francois Jacques. She would often organize the selfless act of providing a free clinic, where everyone regardless of their ability to pay, is seen and given medical care, free-screenings, and preventive education. Often lacking supplies, this proved to be an overwhelming task.

My brothers and I wanted to help professionals in impoverished communities to continue in their quest to make a difference and help the desperate conditions afflicting the less fortunate and ensure they receive the supplies they need to conduct successful free clinics. We also wanted to help poverty-stricken populations who can’t afford the basic necessities of daily living.
Since its foundation, The FCC has helped organize free health clinics, charity events, disaster relief and donations drives in Haiti and South Florida. We have worked diligently engaging volunteers, collaborating with organizations and local businesses to address the immediate and long-term needs of communities in need shipping several lbs. of medical and school supplies, hurricane relief, holiday gifts and personal care items to health clinics, nursing homes, orphanages and missionary youth groups on the ground ensuring the donations reach the people who need it the most and improving health and living conditions in poor areas.

With the knowledge that we are so blessed to live so comfortably and that many don’t have access to basic necessities, let alone adequate care; and working professionals have such limited access to the resources they need, we are determined to continue with such overwhelming task.
I envision The Free Clinic Corporation to expand not only to give but to also create opportunities for the less fortunate. Giving helps communities survive but I believe creating opportunities helps communities thrive. That is why I envision the Free Clinic Corporation to possibly donate supplies such as Arts and crafts, beads, fabric and computers and sponsor arts and crafts classes or computer classes so that]other impoverished communities create and sell goods and services so that they may be able to feed themselves and their families and sustain the economy.
